Kayla's Story

Starr called me on her way home from work and asked if I wanted to go for a walk that night without the dogs. We walk the dogs a lot and always followed the same path but instead of going on our usual route she wanted to go through the pasture. ...The view of the Judith Mountains from our pasture is amazing and it's one of my favorite places in the world; I always call them "my mountains". Well, all the horses had to be in our business and we were almost all the way through and she was just standing there. I kept telling her "Let's go, come on." And she kept saying "Come here." She was driving me crazy. So I walked towards her and she told me to close my eyes because she had a surprise. I was thinking she got me a candy bar or something like that. I opened my eyes and she was on one knee and she had the ring out and we were standing right by my mountains. She said "Will you marry me?" And I said "Is this a joke, are you kidding?" Then I said "yes! Yes yes!" and started crying... Of course.

Starr's Story

I had only told a few people that I was thinking about proposing to Kayla. A few weeks before I had asked Soni what she thought about me asking Kayla to marry me. She was really excited and said that she would love it. I had been pushing around a few ideas of how I wanted to ask her because I wanted it to be special. I had been looking at rings for about a year and couldn't seem to find the perfect one. I had narrowed my pick down to three rings and I asked my close friends which one they would pick. After I really thought about it, I picked out the ring I wanted to get and ordered it. When the ring arrived, I couldn't wait. I was planning on waiting for a few weeks to propose, but after I got the ring, I knew I would never be able to wait. The next day, I talked to my friend and she said, just do it, it will be perfect because you ARE DOING it. On my way home, I texted my mom and told her I was going to do it as soon as I got home. I texted Soni to let her know what was going on too. I called Kayla and asked her if she wanted to go for a walk when I got home. She said yes and all the plans were falling into place. I was so nervous but I got home and tried to act like nothing was up. I had the ring box in my pocket and waited for her to get ready. We left the house and I told her that I wanted to walk a different way than normal. She seemed confused by it but agreed to. We walked into the horse pasture and toward the spot where I wanted to do it. The horses were right up in our faces and Kayla was trying to rush to get out of the pasture. I was stalling and taking my time trying to get the horses to leave so I could get down on one knee. I kept walking further and further to the edge of the hill and Kayla was trying to walk up the hill to get to the exit of the pasture. I kept telling her to come over to where I was and she kept saying no. I finally got her to come over to where I was and I told her to close her eyes because I had a surprise. She closed her eyes and I got down on one knee and told her to open her eyes. She did and I was standing there, knelt down, with the ring out. I said, "Will you marry me?". She looked at me very shocked and said, "Are you kidding?". I started laughing and she started crying and said yes! We left the pasture and she started jumping up and down yelling, "I am engaged, I am engaged". We continued on our walk and started planning and daydreaming about the rest of forever.
